An American business magazine. It is one of the three major English-language business magazines alongside Forbes and Business Week. It is published by Time Inc. (headquartered in New York City), a major magazine subsidiary of entertainment and media giant Time Warner, and is available in print and digital form on the Internet (Fortune.com). Of the three major business magazines, it is unique in that it places emphasis on the management field. Every year, it publishes the Fortune Global 500, a well-known ranking of the world's leading companies, and the Fortune 500, known as a ranking of US companies. It was first published in 1930 during the Great Depression by H.R. Luce, the creator of Time magazine. Well-known economists and commentators such as John Galbraith, Peter Drucker, and Alvin Toffler served as editors and reporters. In 1955, it began publishing the Fortune 500. It has published the 100 Best Companies to Work For, a ranking of the world's best companies to work for, and the Most Admired Companies, and is often reported and cited as a ranking of the world's best companies. In 1978, it changed from a monthly to a biweekly publication, and in 2009 it changed to publication every three weeks (although it is monthly, it is published twice a month in March, June, September, and December). It is one of the world's leading business magazines, read by approximately 3.47 million people in about 120 countries around the world, and has Asian and European editions. However, due to the spread of the Internet, sales and advertising revenues of the print version of Fortune have been sluggish. The number of copies sold in Japan was 858,500 (2016). Its sister publications include Money. [Takeshi Yano December 12, 2017] [References] | | | | | | | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
