Bunbuku tea kettle

Japanese: 文福茶釜 - ブンブクチャガマ

"Bunbuku" is a Japanese kanji that mimics the sound of tea boiling. This tea kettle is handed down at Morinji Temple in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture. According to legend, the tea kettle used by an old monk named Shukaku was so mysterious that no matter how much he simmered it, the water would never run out. The head priest then raccoon dog Tanuki When it was discovered that he was an incarnation of the Buddha, Shukaku left the temple.
A sea urchin of the family Polypodium. It lives on the sandy, muddy bottom of the ocean. Its shell is heart-shaped and flat, measuring about 7cm in length, and its surface is densely covered with brown thorns that resemble animal hair. It is found from central Honshu southwards.

《「ぶんぶく」は茶の沸き立つ音を擬して、それに当て字したもの》群馬県館林市の茂林寺に伝わる茶釜。伝説では、守鶴という老僧の愛用していた茶釜が、くんでもくんでも湯がなくならないので不思議がられていたが、住持によって、守鶴が狸たぬきの化身であることを見破られ、守鶴は寺を去ったという。
ブンブクチャガマ科のウニ。海の砂泥底にすむ。殻は心臓形で平たく、長径7センチくらいで、表面に獣毛のような茶色のとげが密生する。本州中部以南に分布。
