A town in Tagata County, eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. Most of the town is mountainous at the foot of Mt. Hakone, but the Tokaido Main Line passes through the central part via the Tanna Tunnel, and Kannami Station is located there. The southwestern part is the alluvial lowland of the Kano River, and is the center of dairy farming in North Izu. Rice is grown, and greenhouse horticulture such as strawberries, eggplants, and tomatoes is also carried out. The town is home to Hatake Onsen and the Tanna Fault (a natural monument), and is served by the Izu Hakone Railway. Area: 65.16 km2 . Population: 38,571 (2010).
