A former town at the southern tip of Awaji Island, Mihara District, Hyogo Prefecture. Fukura, facing the Naruto Strait, is the base for observing the Naruto tides. In 1985, the Onaruto Bridge was built at Kadozaki, on the western edge of the town, connecting it to Naruto City in Shikoku. Kitaama is known for Minpei ware (Awaji ware) and produces architectural tiles. Daffodils, loquats, and mandarin oranges are cultivated in the Nada sea on the southern slope of the Yuzuruha Mountains. Dairy farming and onion cultivation are also thriving. In January 2005, Minami Awaji City was incorporated as a city by merging with Midori Town, Seidan Town, and Mihara Town in Mihara District. Area: 86.92 km2 . Population: 19,927 (2003). 兵庫県三原郡,淡路島南端の旧町。鳴門海峡に臨む福良(ふくら)は鳴門観潮の基地。1985年町西端の門崎に大鳴門橋が架けられ,四国の鳴門市と結ばれた。北阿万(きたあま)は【みん】平(みんぺい)焼(淡路焼)で知られ,建築用タイルを生産。諭鶴羽(ゆづるは)山地南斜面の灘ではスイセン,ビワ,ミカンを栽培する。酪農,タマネギ栽培も盛ん。2005年1月三原郡緑町,西淡町,三原町と合併し市制,南あわじ市となる。86.92km2。1万9927人(2003)。
