…この農法は寒中イネの種子を水に浸し,あるいは土壌中に貯蔵して春時に播種することにより,収穫の増加を実現しようとするものであった。1883年(明治16)勧農社を設立,指導者を養成して馬耕による抱持立犂(かかえもちたちすき)の深耕農法を全国的に普及させる。当時稲作改良の気運が地主らを中心に高まり,田区改正や乾田化による馬耕の重視などが,彼の説く改良農法を浸透させたが,明治20年代より酒勾常明,横井時敬ら新進農学士により彼の改良稲作法が批判され,勧農社の事業もしだいに衰退していった。…
