Japanese painter. Born in Tokyo. His name was Hitoshi, and he was known as Saburo. At the age of 15, he studied the Kano school under Kano Yoshinobu, and in 1892 (Meiji 25), he became a disciple of Yamana Tsurayoshi of the Tosa school. He also devoted himself to the study of historical facts from an early age. In 1901 (Meiji 34), his work "Kasagi Senko" was selected for the Japan Art Association Exhibition, and he later joined the Ugokai and Kinreisha movements. From 1922 (Taisho 11), he was often appointed as a judge for the Teiten Exhibition, but did not enter any works. It was only at the 7th Teiten Exhibition in 1926 that he finally entered "Risou," which received a great response. He left behind elegant works based on Japanese and Chinese classics. As a calligrapher, he is also known for his elegant Japanese style. His representative works include "Riso" and "Princess Kaguya". His ceiling painting "Dragon" at Hokoji Temple in Kyoto is also well known.
