An Oghuz Turkmen dynasty that arose in the Diyarbakir region on the upper Tigris River in the late 14th century and ruled eastern Anatolia, Iraq, Iran, and Azerbaijan in the late 15th century. Its rulers were also called the Aqoyunlu Dynasty (1378-1508). Its royal lineage was from the Bayindur tribe among the Oghuz tribes. Its founder, Qara 'Uthmān, consolidated his power mainly in the Diyarbakir region, but his expansion was hindered by conflicts with the Kara Koyunlu dynasty, also of Turkmen descent.
