This idiom comes from the phrase "In my heart there is a hill and a basin" in Huang Tingjian's poem "Inscribed on the Withered Tree of Zizhan" (Volume 9 of the Sanya Nai Collection), which was titled after a painting by Su Shi during the Song Dynasty in China. It is a complete reinterpretation and internalization of "one hill and a basin" (from the biography of Xie Kun in the Book of Jin), which means to leave oneself above the dust of the world, and also shows the ideal of literati calligraphy through a clear image. It is also called "one's heart has a hill and a basin" and is used as an idiom to express high insight. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
