Kumano Taisha Shrine

Japanese: 熊野大社 - くまのたいしゃ
Kumano Taisha Shrine

Located in Kumano, Yakumo-cho, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. The deity enshrined is the divine ancestor Kumano Okami Kushimikenu no Mikoto. The deity's name is another name for Susanoo no Mikoto, and can be found in the Izumo no Kuni no Miyatsuko Kamuyogoto. It is said that after Susanoo defeated the Yamata no Orochi, he established a shrine at the current site, and it was worshiped as a shrine protecting the Ogawa River area, the home base of the ancient Izumo tribe. The Engishiki states that "Kumano Nimasu Shrine, Oo County, Izumo Province, is Myojin Dai," and it was considered the Ichinomiya of Izumo Province. Since ancient times, it has had a deep connection with Izumo Taisha, and the Izumo kuni no miyatsuko serves it. Every year on October 15th, the Kiribi Festival for the Niiname Festival is held, and a mortar and pestle are provided by the shrine, and an ancient Hikiri Shinto ritual is performed. Formerly a national shrine. In addition to the annual festival on October 14th, there are other festivals such as the Mikushi Festival (April 13th) and the Mikari Festival (February and the fourth Sunday of October). Yakumo Onsen is located nearby.
