A painter from the Lorraine region of France. Records of him appear after 1616, so it is assumed that he went to Italy before then. However, the simplicity of his style and the religious nature of his subjects make this unlikely. From 1620 he set up a studio in Lunéville near Nancy, and it is believed he never left there until his death. This city was a key transportation hub with close connections to Burgundy, Metz, Nancy, and other cities, and was also the site of the Thirty Years' War.

フランス，ロレーヌ地方の画家。1616年以後に記録が存在するので，それ以前にイタリアに行ったとする推測がされる。しかしその画風の単純性や主題の宗教性からはその可能性は少ない。20年からナンシー近郊のリュネビルLunévilleに工房をかまえ，死ぬまでそこを離れなかったと思われる。この都市は交通の要衝でブルゴーニュ地方やメッス，ナンシーといった都市との連絡が密であるとともに，三十年戦争の舞台ともなったところである。
