...Selling inventory and other items at low prices in stores. Originally, during the Edo period, merchants and prostitutes in Kyoto would visit Kanjaden (Kanjaden) in Shijo-Kyogoku on the 20th day of the 10th month of the lunar calendar to pray for forgiveness for lying in business negotiations throughout the year and to avoid divine punishment. Kanjaden was a sub-shrine of Gion-sha, and was considered to be the "god of oath-return."
