About 60% of the country's land area consists of lowlands and rolling hills, the rest being mountainous. All of the large mountain ranges run east to west, the largest being the Sierra Maestra in the east, which contains Cuba's highest peak, Pico Turquino (2005m above sea level). Other major mountain ranges include the Sierra de los Organos in the west, the Sierra del Rosario in the Rosario Mountains, and the Escambray Mountains in the center.
