A town in Itano County, in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture, downstream of the Yoshino River. It was the center of indigo cultivation from the early modern period to the end of the Meiji period. Utilizing the fertile alluvial soil, paddy rice cultivation, vegetable and flower cultivation are thriving. In recent years, urbanization has progressed. It is home to the ruins of Shozui Castle, which was the center of the Hosokawa clan's rule of Awa Province in the Middle Ages. 16.27 km2 . Population: 33,338 (2010). 徳島県北東部,吉野川下流の板野郡の町。近世初期から明治末期までアイ作の中心地であった。肥えた沖積土壌を利用し,水田耕作のほか,野菜,花卉(かき)栽培が盛ん。近年は都市化が進む。中世に細川氏の阿波国支配の中心であった勝瑞(しょうずい)城跡がある。16.27km2。3万3338人(2010)。
