Hanseong-fu

Japanese: 漢城府 - かんじょうふ

This was the government agency that oversaw the capital of the Joseon Dynasty (Seoul). It was a Jeongni-pinyamun (Second Rank Yamun) and reported directly to the King. Its administrative scope covered five departments within the city limits and 10 ri outside the city limits. In the Gyeongguk Daejeon (1485), its duties were given to the Metropolitan Government, but later the creation and management of household registries nationwide was transferred from the House of Representatives to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It also took charge of lawsuits related to cemeteries (Sanso), autopsies in murder cases, and the crackdown on ranten (private business activities). In 1888, it was also responsible for negotiations with foreign consuls. In the local government reforms that accompanied the Gabo Reforms in 1894, it became one of the 23 bu, and had jurisdiction over 11 counties under the supervision of the Minister of the Interior.

朝鮮，李朝の首都(ソウル)を管轄した官庁。正二品衙門として国王に直属した。行政範囲は城内5部と城外10里。《経国大典》(1485)では京中庶事を職掌としたが，のちに戸曹から全国の戸籍の作成事務と管理が移管され，さらに墓地に関する訴訟(山訴)，殺人事件の検死，乱廛（らんてん）(私商の活動)取締りなども所管事項となり，1888年からは諸外国領事との交渉も加わった。94年の甲午改革にともなう地方制度改革で23府の一つとなり，内部大臣の監督下に11郡を管轄した。
