Year of death: 26 February 1351 (24 March 1351) Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. Military commander during the Northern and Southern Courts period. Son of Moshige. Brother of Munechika. Governor of Owari and Echigo. Shugo of Echigo, Owari, Izumi, Kawachi, etc. In 1334 (Kenmu 1), he became the Fourth Magistrate of the Office of Decision-Making of Miscellaneous Lawsuits. In July of the second year, the Nakasendai Rebellion broke out in Shinano, and after Ashikaga Tadayoshi of Kamakura was defeated, he accompanied Ashikaga Takauji to Kanto. He defeated Nitta Yoshisada's army at Hakone and pursued Yoshisada to Kyoto, but was defeated by Go-Daigo's army, and traveled with Takauji to Kyushu. In May of the following year, he followed Tadayoshi and traveled east by land, killing Kusunoki Masashige and others at Minatogawa. After the establishment of the Muromachi Shogunate, he occupied a central position within the Shogunate as the head of the Samurai-dokoro. He fought in battles in various places thereafter. In 1347 (Sadakawa 3/Shohei 2), he attacked Nitta Yoshisada at Kanegasaki Castle in Echizen and took it, and fought against Kitabatake Akiie's Oshu army, who had come to Kyoto, in various parts of Totomi and Mino. One story is that after defeating Masayuki, he burned down the shrine of Prince Shotoku in Kawachi, and that he dug up the ancestral gravesite of the Sugawara family to build a mountain villa in Higashiyama, and later killed the owner, Sugawara Arito. During the Kan'o Disturbance, he temporarily overwhelmed the Naoyoshi faction, and in 1512 (Kan'o 1/Shohei 5), he marched into the Chugoku region to attack Naoyoshi's supporters, but in February of the following year, he fought against Naoyoshi's army in Harima together with Takauji and Moronao, was defeated, wounded, and surrendered, and was killed along with Moronao and his family.
