〘Noun〙① During the Edo period, an entranceway was located between the front and back of Edo Castle and the residences of various feudal lords. The one in Edo Castle was two ken wide, with a black-lacquered cedar door and a large copper-plated door, and it is said that it opened at five o'clock (around 8 a.m.) and closed and locked at six o'clock (around 6 p.m.). It was heavily guarded by the Ojoguchiban, and men were forbidden to enter the area beyond that. 〘名〙① 江戸時代、江戸城や諸大名の邸内で、表と奥との境にあった出入り口。江戸城のそれは間口二間、黒塗縁の杉戸と銅張りの大戸が立ち、五つ(午前八時頃)に開き、六つ(午後六時頃)に閉め、錠を下ろしたという。御錠番衆によって厳重に警護され、それより奥は男子の出入りが禁じられていた。御口(おくち)。※歌舞伎・隅田川花御所染(1814)四立「お錠口(ヂャウグチ)まで伴うて、役人中へこの由を」② 「おじょうぐちばん(御錠口番)」の略。
