A retainer of the Date clan in the late Sengoku and early Edo periods. He was the second son of Katakura Kageshige, the chief priest of Hachiman Shrine, and his mother was the daughter of Motozawa Masanao. He was born in Miyamura, Shimonagai, Okitama County, Dewa Province (Miya, Nagai City, Yamagata Prefecture). His name was Kojuro and Bitchu. He started out as a page to Date Terumune, the lord of Yonezawa Castle, and in 1575 he became the tutor of his successor, Bontenmaru (Masamune), and since then he has always been a close attendant to Masamune. Date Shirozane and Kagetsuna were always involved in Masamune's military strategies, and he is known as a famous retainer throughout the country. He was distinguished in various battles such as the Battle of Suriagehara, and in 1618 he persuaded Masamune to join Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Odawara campaign, prepared to die by death. He also accompanied Masamune in Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea. He was first transferred from Omori Castle to Watari Castle, and in 1602 he was awarded 13,000 koku of rice at Shiroishi Castle. His grave is in the Katakura family mausoleum in Shiroishi, Miyazaki Prefecture.

戦国末・江戸前期の伊達家臣。八幡宮神主片倉景重の次男,母は本沢真直の娘。出羽国置賜郡下長井宮村(山形県長井市宮)生まれ。小十郎,備中と称す。米沢城主伊達輝宗の従小姓から天正3(1575)年嗣君梵天丸(政宗)の傅となって以降,常に政宗に近侍し,政宗の軍略にはいつも伊達城実とこの景綱が関与し,天下の名陪臣と称さる。摺上原などの諸合戦に功があり,18年には豊臣秀吉の小田原陣に政宗を説いて斬死覚悟で共に参陣。秀吉の朝鮮出兵にも政宗に従軍。初め大森城から亘理城へ,慶長7(1602)年に白石城1万3000石を拝領。墓は宮崎県白石市の片倉家廟所にある。<参考文献>小林清治『伊達政宗』
