Ash-glazed pottery

Japanese: 灰釉陶器 - かいゆうとうき
Ash-glazed pottery
This earthenware was made by dissolving plant ash in water and applying a glaze to it before firing. It was made during the Nara and Heian periods and was used in government offices and temples.
