Carnauba wax

Japanese: カルナウバ蠟 - カルナウバろう（英語表記）carnauba wax

It is made by scraping off the wax exuded from fresh leaves or petioles of the wax palm, melting it in hot water, and pouring it into a mold to solidify. The main components are esters of higher fatty acids (carbon numbers C = 22, 24, 26, 28) and higher alcohols (C = 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34), with 75% being cerotic acid melissyl C ₂₅ H ₅₁ COOC ₃₀ H ₆₁ , which is derived from cerotic acid (C = 26) and melissyl alcohol (C = 30). In addition to the esters (80-81%), it also contains 1-1.5% free fatty acids such as carnaubic acid (lignoceric acid, C = 24) and 9-10% free alcohols such as ceryl alcohol (C = 26).

ロウヤシの新鮮な葉または葉柄に浸出する蠟をかきとってから熱湯で溶融し，型に注入して固化させたもの。主成分は高級脂肪酸(炭素数C＝22,24,26,28)と高級アルコール(C＝24,26,28,30,32,34)のエステルであって，とくにセロチン酸(C＝26)とメリシルアルコール(C＝30)から生じたセロチン酸メリシルC₂₅H₅₁COOC₃₀H₆₁が全体の75％を占める。エステル(80～81％)以外に遊離脂肪酸としてカルナウバ酸(リグノセリン酸，C＝24)などが1～1.5％，遊離アルコールとしてセリルアルコール(C＝26)などが9～10％含まれる。
