Originally, this concept was the name given to the science (ideology) by ideologists such as Cabanis and Destutt de Tracy, who, influenced by the sensualism of Bacon, Locke, and especially Condillac, sought to empirically study the origin and development of ideas and knowledge from the late 18th century to the early 19th century.
