…Because a vein or artery is cut open and a catheter is inserted through it, X-rays, electrocardiograms, and other tests are called non-invasive tests, whereas cardiac catheterization is called invasive. The first person to perform cardiac catheterization on a human in 1929 was Werner Forssmann (1904-79), a German. At the age of 25, he inserted a ureteral catheter through a vein in his left arm to the right atrium, and attempted cardiac catheterization a total of seven times. In 1941, André F. Cournand (1895-1988), an American born in France, established right heart catheterization by performing cardiac catheterization of the right heart system from a systemic vein to the right atrium, right ventricle, and pulmonary artery (Forssmann and Cournand were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine together with DW Richards in 1956). …

…静脈あるいは動脈を切開し，そこからカテーテルを挿入するため，X線写真，心電図検査などを非観血的検査法と呼ぶのに対して，心臓カテーテル法を観血的検査法と呼ぶ。　心臓カテーテル法を1929年に初めてヒトに行ったのはドイツのフォルスマンWerner Forssmann(1904‐79)で，彼は25歳の時に左腕の静脈より尿管カテーテルを右心房まで挿入したのをはじめとして，計7回心臓カテーテル法を試みた。フランス生れのアメリカ人クルナンAndré F.Cournand(1895‐1988)は41年，体静脈より右心房，右心室，肺動脈に至る右心系の心臓カテーテル法を行い，右心カテーテル法を確立した(フォルスマンとクルナンは1956年リチャーズD.W.Richardsとともにノーベル生理･医学賞を受賞)。…
