The phenomenon in which an incident photon is absorbed by the surface of a material and an electron is released to the outside as a result is called the external photon effect (external photoelectric effect), and the released electron is called a photoelectron. The energy of one photon is expressed as h ν ( h is Planck's constant, ν is the frequency of light), but photoelectrons are not released unless this value is equal to or exceeds the "threshold potential" E _t determined by the surface of the material that detects the light. …
