El Petén (English spelling)

It is the most populous country in Central America and has the largest proportion of indigenous Mayan people.

Geographically, the country is divided into four parts: the Pacific coast, the central plateau, the northern valley, and the Yucatan Peninsula (El Petén). The Pacific coast is part of the lowlands that run from Mexico to El Salvador, and has many short rivers and receives a lot of rainfall.
