Sea grass

Japanese: 海草 - かいそう(英語表記)sea grass
Sea grass

It is a large marine plant, but usually refers to a marine seed plant. Opposite of seaweeds. All seaweeds are monocotyledonous plants, with about 50 species in 12 genera and 2 families distributed around the world. There are 15 species in 8 genera and 2 families along the coast of Japan, including Zostera marina and Zostera serrata, which form underwater forests called seaweed beds and are ideal habitats for fish and shellfish. In terms of horizontal distribution, Zostera serrata is found north of the Kanto region, but most seaweeds are found west of the Chubu region. Temperate seaweeds native to Japan include Zostera marina above the low tide line, Ebiamamo at the low tide line, Zostera marina just below the low tide line, and Oomazumo, Sedgeamamo, and Hollow Zostera marina growing a few to 10 meters below the low tide line. Tropical species include sea weed, sea hyacinth, and pine-leaf sea weed, above the low tide line, Ryukyu seagrass at the low tide line, bow-grass, red seagrass, and Ryukyu seagrass just below the low tide line, and sea iris grows a few to tens of metres below the low tide line.
