Obirinsan - Obirinsan (English spelling) Banded Linsang

It is a member of the Mammalia class, Carnivora order, and the Civet family. It is found in Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. Its body has irregular stripes and dots of various sizes. Its head and body length is 35-45 cm, its tail length is 31-42 cm, and it weighs 6-7 kg. Its body is slender, and its front and back legs are short. It has five stripes across its back, two rows of irregular stripes and stripes on its sides, and seven black rings on its tail. It mainly lives in trees, but descends to the ground to look for birds, mice, snakes, and other food. It makes nests by collecting branches and leaves under large trees. It gives birth to 2-3 young per litter. Its lifespan is about 6-9 years. The closely related spotted cicada P. pardicolor , found from Nepal to the Indochina Peninsula, is different in that it has smaller stripes and about nine black rings on its tail, but its habits are similar.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱食肉目ジャコウネコ科の動物。タイ、マレー半島、スマトラ島、ジャワ島、ボルネオ島に分布する。体に大小さまざまの不規則な帯状や点状の斑紋(はんもん)がある。頭胴長35～45センチメートル、尾長31～42センチメートル、体重6～7キログラム。体は細長く、前後肢は短い。背を横切る5本の斑紋、体側には2列に不規則な斑紋と帯、尾には7本の黒色輪がある。おもに樹上にすむが、食物の鳥、ネズミ、ヘビなどを探しに地上に降りる。大木の下などに木の枝や葉を集めて巣をつくる。1産2～3子。寿命は6～9年ぐらいである。ネパールからインドシナ半島まで分布する近縁のブチリンサンP. pardicolorは斑紋が小さく、尾の黒色輪が約9本ある点で異なるが、習性は類似する。
