[2] [1] A city in northwestern Yunnan, China. It was the capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom from the 7th century to the beginning of the 10th century, and the subsequent Dali Kingdom. The surrounding area produces marble. [2] It was founded in 937 by Duan Siping, a Tai Baiban who was a Nanzhao Tonghai Jiedushi. It paid tribute to the Song Dynasty. It was destroyed by Kublai Khan in 1254.

〘名〙 (「たいり」とも)[1]① 大きな道理。根本のすじ道。※勝鬘経義疏（611）序「師子吼者。自宣_二大理_一無_レ所_二怖畏_一」※わらんべ草（1660）二「性は善也と孟子に云へるは、すべての大理なるべし」〔荘子‐秋水〕② 中国古代の官名。追捕(ついぶ)・糺弾(きゅうだん)・裁判・刑罰などのことをつかさどるもの。※今昔（1120頃か）九「今昔、河南に元の太宝と云ふ人有けり。貞観の間に、大理の丞として有り」〔淮南子‐主術訓〕③ 刑部省(ぎょうぶしょう)の唐名。※拾芥抄（１３‐１４Ｃ）中「刑部卿〈刑部省〈略〉大理〉」④ 検非違使別当の唐名。※宇治拾遺（1221頃）二「友をよびぐして、金をば看督長(かどのをさ)にもたせて、薄打具(はくうちぐ)して、だいりの許へ参りぬ」[2][一] 中国、雲南省西北部の都市。七世紀から一〇世紀はじめの南詔国と、続いておこった大理国の首都。付近は大理石を産する。[二] 九三七年、南詔の通海節度使、タイ族白蛮出身の段思平が建てた国。宋に朝貢。一二五四年にフビライに滅ぼされた。
