Yuri clan - Yuriuji

Japanese: 由利氏 - ゆりうじ

A medieval samurai family from Yuri County, Dewa Province (present-day Akita Prefecture). Also written as "Yuri." In the Kamakura period, Yuri Hachiro was a retainer of Fujiwara Yasuhira, and Yuri Korehira and Yuri Korehisa appear as Kamakura vassals, but it is unclear whether they were of the same family. At the end of the Kamakura period, Yuri Masaharu was destroyed by the Chokai clan, and the county thereafter belonged to the Chokai clan. After the Chokai clan was destroyed in the Muromachi period, samurai known as the Twelve Yuri clans (heads) ruled the county. These are Nikaho, Yajima, Akaozu, Koyoshi, Serita, Utechi, Ishizawa, Iwaya, Kataho, Ayukawa, Shimomura, and Tamamai, and sometimes the count excludes Tamamai and adds Hanekawa, and also includes Takizawa instead of Serita.

出羽国由利郡(現，秋田県)出身の中世武家。〈由理〉とも書く。鎌倉時代，藤原泰衡郎従に由利八郎があり，鎌倉御家人に由利維平，同維久がみえるが，同族かどうかは不明。鎌倉末期，由利政春が鳥海氏に滅ぼされ，以後当郡は鳥海氏に属したという。室町時代に至り鳥海氏が滅んだのち，郡内に由利十二党(頭)といわれる武士が割拠した。仁賀(嘉)保（にかほ），矢(八)島，赤尾津，子吉（こよし），芹田（せりた），内(打)越（うてえち），石沢，岩谷(屋)，潟保，鮎川，下村，玉米(前)（とうまい）がそれで，玉米を除いて羽川(羽根川)（はねかわ）を加え，また芹田の代りに滝沢をいれて数えることもある。
