Around 1840-1900
A conqueror of the Bornu Empire, which ruled northeastern Nigeria in West Africa, and a slave trader from Sudan. Born into a poor family near Khartoum, he engaged in the slave trade under Zubair Rahman Pasha and his son, the de facto rulers of the Bahr el-Ghazal state in southern Sudan, from about 1865, and in 1873 became commander of Zubair's army. After clashing with the Egyptian government forces, which had banned the slave trade, he began building the "Rabih Empire" while engaging in the slave trade in the Darfur region in the south.

西アフリカのナイジェリア北東部を支配したボルヌー帝国の征服者で，スーダン出身の奴隷商人。ハルトゥーム付近の貧しい家に生まれた。1865年ころよりスーダン南部のバフル･アルガザール州の実質上の支配者ズバイル･ラフマーン･パシャ父子のもとで奴隷貿易に従事し，73年にはズバイルの軍隊の司令官に就任した。奴隷貿易を禁止したエジプト政府軍との衝突後，南部のダルフール地方などで奴隷貿易に従事しながら〈ラービフ帝国〉の建設に着手した。
