Stieglitz in 1905 and the development of avant-garde art centered around it (John Marin (1870-1953), Charles Demuth (1883-1935), G. O'Keeffe, Max Weber (1881-1961), and others). From [Watercolor]

…By this time, as if stimulated by the rise of watercolors in England, most artists on the continent were also working with watercolors. Among the most important artists were Delacroix, Daumier, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Signac, and Moreau, and towards the 20th century, Rouault, Dufy, Segonzac, Klee, and Nolde, as well as Homer, Maurice Prendergast (1859-1924), and John Marin (1870-1953) in the United States. All of them showed free styles and techniques that were not bound by traditional styles.
[Modern Japanese Watercolors]
