Nagakiyo Ogasawara - Nagakiyo Ogasawara

Japanese:
Nagakiyo Ogasawara - Nagakiyo Ogasawara

A military commander in the Kamakura period. Born on March 5, 1391, at the mansion of Ogasawara-sho (Ogasawara, Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture). His childhood name was Toyomatsumaru. His eldest brother Mitsutomo served the Taira clan and Kiso Yoshinaka, but his second son Nagakiyo served Minamoto no Yoritomo along with his father Tomitsu, and became the ancestor of the Ogasawara clan. Tomitsu was appointed governor of Shinano, one of the Kanto provinces, and Nagakiyo also became land steward of Tomono-sho in the same province. He received a tax payment request from Emperor Goshirakawa through Yoritomo for unpaid taxes. During the Jōkyū War (1221), he became the shogun of the Tosando region, and executed the anti-shogunate noble Minamoto Arimasa in Oze village, Inatsumi manor, Kai province, in his territory. In 1216 (Kenpō 4), he established a temple to pray for the soul of the shogun, and passed away on July 15, Ninji 3. His descendants built the foundations of the Ogasawara clan of Shinano, centering on the Banno and Oi manors, and he was also known as a "master of horses." His 6th-generation grandson, Sadamune, founded the Ogasawara school, which served the shogunate as a family art of archery and horse riding.
