…A compound in which acetic acid is bonded to the SH group of coenzyme A by a thioester bond, it is an important donor of acetyl groups in living organisms as a high-energy phosphate ester (⊿ G゜′＝－7.7kcal). It was isolated from yeast by F. Lynen in the early 1950s, and it was revealed to correspond to the substance that had been called active acetic acid. In addition to being produced from pyruvic acid in the pyruvate dehydrogenase reaction in living organisms, it is also produced by the β-oxidation of fatty acids and the activation reaction of acetic acid. …
