Ibn Rusta

Japanese: イブン・ルスタ(英語表記)Ibn Rusta
Ibn Rusta
A Muslim geographer born in Isfahan who was active in the first half of the 10th century. His birth and death years are unknown. There is a record that he was in Hijaz in 903. His works include the Book of Precious Things (903-913), written in Arabic. It was originally a large work, but only the seventh volume, which deals with astronomy and geography, remains. This work was compiled with the intention of providing a holistic view of the world and providing secular and practical information. It includes not only the Islamic world under the Abbasid Caliphate, but also non-Islamic regions such as Byzantium, and the richness of themes and the diversity of views collected give it the feel of a compact historical geography encyclopedia.
