A city located in the center of Sagamihara, central Kanagawa Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1971. The city center developed as a post town and market town along the road from Hachioji to Hiratsuka. The Sagami Line and Odakyu Electric Railway Line, which opened between the end of the Taisho era and the beginning of the Showa era, run through the area. In 1937, the Army Academy was established here and it became known as Sobudai, and after World War II it became a US military base. It has also become a residential area. Area: 17.57 km2 . 神奈川県中部,相模原の中央部を占める市。1971年市制。中心市街は八王子から平塚への街道沿いの宿場町,市場町として発達。大正末から昭和初期にかけて開通した相模線,小田急電鉄線が通じる。1937年陸軍士官学校がおかれて相武台と呼ばれ,第2次世界大戦後は米軍基地になっている。住宅地化も著しい。17.57km2。12万9436人(2010)。
