Chemical-propellant rocket

A rocket uses the reaction force of high-temperature, high-pressure combustion gases produced by a chemical reaction between fuel and an oxidizer. Because it produces its own oxygen, it can fly in the airless space of outer space. In this respect, it differs from the method used by jet planes. Depending on the fuel used, there is a distinction between liquid-fuel rockets and solid-fuel rockets. In contrast, nuclear rockets and electric rockets are called non-chemical rockets.

燃料と酸化剤を化学反応させることによって，高温・高圧の燃焼ガスを発生，噴出させ，その反動力で推進するロケット。自前で酸素をつくるので，空気のない宇宙空間でも飛ぶことができる。その点で，ジェット機の方式と違っている。使用する燃料によって，液体燃料ロケット，固体燃料ロケットの区別がある。これに対して，原子力ロケットや電気ロケットなどは非化学ロケットという。
