...A writer of the late Edo period. Author of kyoka, rhapsodies, kyobun, sharebon, kibyōshi, and kokōbon. Essayist. Real name Tan, commonly known as Naojirō and Shichizaemon. Pen names included Shūzanjin, Neboke Sensei, Yomono Akara, Bajintei, Kyokaen, Yamate Bakajin, Furin Sanjin, and others. A shogunate official born in Ushigome, Edo. His first role as a guide to the literary arts of Edo citizens was with the publication of Neboke Sensei Bunshū (1767), a rhapsodies he had written for fun that was highly praised by Hiraga Gennai. The light-hearted humor of this 19-year-old intellectual samurai was well received and he quickly became famous as a writer. ...
