1884‐1941 A Russian female revolutionary and leader of the Left SR Party. Daughter of an aristocrat from Tambov Province. She joined the SR Party in 1905 while studying at a nursing school. In 1906, she shot and assassinated General Rzhenovsky, a repressor of the peasant movement in Tambov Province, at a train station. She was sentenced to death by a military tribunal, but her sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment and she was sent to a Siberian prison. She was released by the February Revolution in 1917, and on her return to St. Petersburg she became a central figure in the left wing of the SR Party and supported the October Revolution.
