Founder of the Later Le Dynasty of Vietnam (reigned 1428-33). Born into a local lord's family in Lam Son, Thanh Hoa. In 1407, the Ming overthrew the Ho Dynasty and occupied Vietnam, but in 1418 he raised an army in Lam Son and called himself King Binh Dinh (Pacifying) in rebellion against the Ming's direct rule. He then waged guerilla warfare against the Ming in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, and gradually gained power with the help of his skilled adviser Nguyen Trai. In 1426 he advanced north, defeating Ming forces in the Son Khoi River Delta the following year and forcing the Ming forces to withdraw on the condition that a descendant of the Tran Dynasty, Tran Cao, ascend to the throne.

ベトナムの後レ(黎)朝の創始者(在位1428‐33)。タインホアのラムソンの土豪の家の生れ。1407年明はホー(胡)朝を倒してベトナムを占領したが，その直接支配に抗して18年ラムソンに挙兵し，ビンディン(平定)王と称した。さらにタインホア，ゲアンで反明ゲリラ戦を展開し，名参謀グエン･チャイ(阮薦)の協力を得てしだいに勢力を増した。26年北方に進撃し，翌年ソンコイ川デルタの明軍を撃破，チャン(陳)朝の子孫チャン･カオ(陳嵩)の即位を条件に明軍を撤退させた。
