The birthday of John the Baptist. June 24th. John was born six months before Jesus Christ as the son of the Jewish priest Zacharias and his wife Elizabeth, and later baptized Christ, as detailed in the Bible (Luke 1:13-20, Matthew 3:13-16, etc.). Therefore, when Christmas was established on December 25th, his birthday became the midsummer day, June 24th. Although the name John's Day is a Christian expression, the midsummer festival is much older than Christianity and was widely celebrated throughout Europe.
