Located in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, this is a keyhole-shaped tumulus estimated to have been built in the mid-to-late 5th century, and is a national historic site. Surrounded by double moats, the circular rear part has a diameter of 120m, the front part has a width of 126m, and the total length is 210m, making it a conspicuous presence even in Gunma Prefecture, where large tumuli are dotted, and it is the largest in eastern Japan. Nyotaiyama Tumulus (national historic site), estimated to have been built in the mid-5th century, is nearby, facing the same direction across the road, and it is thought to be somehow related.
