Haiku poet. Born on November 3, 1901 in Kyoto City. His real name was Chikahiko. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Tokyo Imperial University after graduating from the former Third High School. He was taught by Suzukanoburo and Hino Sojo at the Kyoto University Third High School Haiku Club, and contributed poems to "Kyokanoko" and "Hototogisu". At the Tokyo University Haiku Club, he was active with Mizuhara Shuoushi under the guidance of Takahama Kyoshi. He published a work that recalled his childhood in Karafuto (Sakhalin) in the style of Manyo, which was called "The 4S of the Hototogisu", and further established a hard-edged style of haiku that was concise and clear with urban themes. He rejected the taste for fuuei (sartorial poetry) in "Hototogisu" and became a pioneer of the new haiku movement, attempting serial haiku. He also advocated the reconstruction of reality based on Ashibi. In 1948 (Showa 23), he founded Tenro, advocating the theory of "origin," and brought together emerging haiku poets such as Saito Sanki, Akimoto Fujio, and Hirahata Seito, as well as Seishi's Hashimoto Takako and Enomoto Fuyuichiro, and contributed to the revival of haiku after the war. He received the Purple Ribbon Medal in 1970 and the Art Academy Prize in 1987. His haiku collections include "Frozen Port" (1932), "Yellow Flag" (1935), "Raging Waves" (1946), "Blue Lady" (1951), and "Immovable" (1977), as well as many collections of essays. [Takaha Kariyuki] In the summer river, the ends of the red iron chains are drenched. I go out to sea and the cold wind blows, with no place to return to.
