〘 noun 〙 (also "o-tatemono")① An outstanding actor who is the center of a theatrical troupe. ※Tangihon Tosei Shimatedangi (1752) 1st: "If another leading actor in the troupe gives instructions without asking, even an extremely illiterate villain will enjoy it." ② The most respected person in a society. A powerful person who represents that society. ※Ninjyohon Haruiro Umebine (around 1841-42) 2nd: "It's rumored that she has now become a very accomplished person, but she is actually just a singer who has no qualms about anything." ③ Something that attracts a lot of attention from people or is well-liked. ※Ninjyohon Hanagatama (1841) 1st: "Among all things, money is the most impressive thing that gets people's attention."
