〘noun〙① Elegance and vulgarity. Refined things and vulgar things. Elegant things and rustic things. Things that are orthodox and things that are out of the ordinary. *Sozanshu (1674) vol. 14 - A sleepless night in the spring, a playful poem by Yuan Zhonglang "At the end of the day, _no flames will _burn , and elegance and vulgarity will be compared." [New Book of Tang - Records of Rites and Music, vol. 12] ② Refined language and ordinary language used daily. Elegant language and vulgar language. Also, literary style and colloquial style. *Humorous Book - Ukiyoburo (1809-13) vol. 3 - "The differences and similarities between elegance and vulgarity should be understood by following the side readings."
