1906‐49 Murshid was the first leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. He was from a rural area in the Nile Delta. He studied under Dar al-Uloom and, rebelling against the smears of city life, founded the Brotherhood as a secret society in 1929 in Ismailia, where he was appointed as a middle school teacher. In the 1940s, he helped it grow into a right-wing religious and social movement that would become Egypt's largest mass political organization, and he controlled its hierarchical organization with a mystical authority. He organized terrorist attacks such as inciting the masses to a Palestinian war and assassinating important figures through secret military agencies, but was assassinated by the secret police in return.
