Born on April 18, 1271. Came to Japan at age 18 and studied at Tokyo Higher Normal School. He studied under Kanzo Uchimura. In 1927, he returned to Korea and founded the magazine "Bible Korea," where he became its editor-in-chief. In 1942, an editorial that expressed hope for Korean independence caused a literary scandal, and he was imprisoned for a year. He died suddenly of typhus on April 25, 1945, just before Korea's liberation. He was 45 years old. He was from South Hamgyong Province.
