Chasing - Saying

Japanese: 逐鵜 - おいう
Chasing - Saying

... Tying the neck is a basic technique common to all cormorant fishing, but in actual cormorant fishing, there are various techniques depending on whether a hand rope is used, whether fishing is done during the day or at night, the type of cormorant, whether a cormorant boat is used, whether auxiliary means are used, etc. Broadly speaking, there are three types: "tethered cormorant fishing," in which the cormorant is tied with a hand rope; "released cormorant fishing," in which the cormorant is released to hunt freely without a hand rope; and "chasing cormorant," in which the cormorant's role is simply to chase fish, which are ultimately caught in a net.
[Cormorant Fishing in Japan]
The oldest record of cormorant fishing is in Japan, found in the 7th century Chinese historical text "Suishu" (Book of Sui), in the Wakokuden section.
