...Poetry contests are also classified based on the extent to which the poets were involved, such as current poetry contests, Kanjitsu poetry contests, selected poetry contests, poetry contests of all eras, self-poetry contests, and personified poetry contests, and the classification of these contests is diverse and complex. In terms of personnel alone, a typical poetry contest held during the Imperial Court's Seigi era would include kataudo (the contestants on the left and right), omoibito (supporters on the left and right), tou (leaders on the left and right), tokushi (people belonging to the left and right who hand over the poems of each round to the instructor in turn), koji (people belonging to the left and right who recite the poems of each round), kazusashi (boys belonging to the left and right who count the winning points), utayomi (poem writers), hanjiya (people who judge the merits of the poems of the left and right, appointed by authorities or people of high rank in the contemporary poetry world), as well as the organizer, people who transcribe the poems, and people who choose the titles of the poems.
