A Kurdish Islamic dynasty (c. 983-1085) in the Diyarbakir region of eastern Turkey. After the death of Azd-ud-Daula of the Buyid dynasty, which was powerful in Western Asia, Baz (reigned c. 983-990), the leader of the Kurds in Diyarbakir, established the dynasty. The dynasty reached its peak during the reign of the third ruler, Ibn Marwan (reigned 1011-61), who maintained loyalty to the Abbasid caliphs, but also friendly relations with the Fatimid caliphs and the Byzantine emperor, thereby maintaining independence. After his death, the dynasty split up and was conquered by the Seljuk Empire in 1085.
