...They are active during the day and rest on nearby grass or on the walls of livestock sheds at night. Horn flies, Haematobia irritans , are common in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region, and they particularly like to suck the blood of cows. Unlike stable flies, they are found in very large numbers in cow dung in pastures.
