...The Buddha statues in the later Buddhist caves also have much in common with the Sarnath style. Hindu sculpture also began during the Gupta period, and there are large-scale, powerful works in Mathura, as well as in the Udayagiri Caves (early 5th century), Eran (late 5th century to early 6th century), and Deoghar (early 6th century) in central India. As Buddhism declined in the Middle Ages, the sculptures gradually lost their power and became more formulaic.
