Ketyl

This refers to the anion radical of a carbonyl compound (RR' ^{C -C-} ). It is also called a ketyl radical. Those whose unpaired electron can be delocalized exist stably. Diaryl ketones are easily reduced by one electron with alkali metals in aprotic solvents to produce ketyl, resulting in a colored solution.

Ketyls are considered to be intermediates in reactions in which carbonyl compounds are reductively coupled, such as the formation of pinacol and the McMurry reduction. In addition, in the reaction of sterically hindered ketones with Grignard reagents, products derived from ketyls produced by one-electron transfer can be obtained. Sodium benzophenone ketyl is used as a strong drying agent for tetrahydrofuran, diethyl ether, etc.

カルボニル化合物のアニオンラジカル(RR′ C^・-C^－)のこと．ケチルラジカルともいう．不対電子が非極在化できるものは安定に存在する．ジアリールケトンは，非プロトン性溶媒中でアルカリ金属により容易に1電子還元されてケチルを生じて有色の溶液となる．

ピナコールの生成，McMurry還元など，カルボニル化合物が還元的にカップリングする反応において，ケチルは反応中間体と考えられている．また，立体障害のあるケトンとグリニャール試薬との反応でも，1電子移動で生成したケチルに由来する生成物が得られることがある．ナトリウムベンゾフェノンケチルは，テトラヒドロフラン，ジエチルエーテルなどの強力な乾燥剤として用いられる．
